How was the idea for a revolving MetaGlobe born? We asked the artist why and how he creates these unique environmental crypto artworks.
What inspires you to create art NFTs?
– I’m inspired by a lot of things. I find daily inspiration from Instagram, Twitter and movies. I watch a lot of movies but I also like to just wonder around outdoors in the nature. One of my recent favorite movies is ”Don’t Look Up” directed by Adam McKay and starring Leonardo DiCaprio. The movie captures perfectly our time and the people who decide for our future. DiCaprio himself is also such an inspiring environmentalist and motivates me to do these NFTs for Earth.

Where did the idea for your loop videos come from?
– I have done earlier some experimental photography using a lensball and wanted to find a way to capture the miniature globe spinning. Of course when you spin the glass ball the view doesn’t change but after some tests I came up with my method of spinning the camera around the ball. The end result is like a tiny globe rotating on its axis.
How do you make your crypto art?
– The process starts with finding a location on Google Earth and checking the weather forecast. I plan my shoots for cloudy days to achieve the flat look with constant natural light. I set up my camera, LUMIX GH5, on a tripod and start shooting. On the lens I use a polarizing filter to minimize the reflections on the glass surface of the ball. To achieve the 360° rotation I shoot 72 photos, once every 5°, with the lensball and then repeat the round with just the landscape. It’s a really slow process which gives me more time to spend in the nature. Later I edit, combine and animate all the photos with Adobe Lightroom and Premiere Pro software.

Is there a deeper meaning in your work?
– There is but it’s also nice for people to find their own interpretations and meanings in them. For me the way the globe is spinning upside down makes me think of the current state of planet Earth. And what we see in the background could be some sort of metaverse which will be the only reality left if we don’t act now and save this planet.
Do you think you can make a difference with your art?
– The goal of MetaGlobe NFTs is to sell crypto art in order to raise funds for important climate initiatives and build a community of artists and art collectors who all share the same vision. Through collecting environmental digital art we are urging other artists to create work that influences the whole world and spreads hope for Earth. I really do believe art can make a difference if it can deliver the message to you.
